Day 38: Long Leave

Yeah, long leave.... post-exam laziness...I hope you understand.

Watched a few good movies in between. But won't describe any today, it sounds like another IMDB. I don't know how to liven up the blog... if anybody has any suggestions I can of course take them in.

I just want to share with everybody whenever I watch a good movie, specially when it's not that popular or didn't get its due credit. Moreover, I can feel what movie is good for which mood... and I want to tune that up for you too... but you gotta interact with me... otherwise this blog is gonna die.

Anyway, I watched Defendor. A good drama movie, that has all the potentials of being a flop and I guess it was, too.

Then, I took care of Pet Detective Jr., it was a long due. Josh Flitter is lovely! Just like he was in Nancy Drew and The Greatest Game Ever Player. But the bad thing was they didn't show even a picture of Jim Carrey... no tribute to the trendsetter!

About the exam... 56 is pass marks, and I will get 57 at least, as far as I calculated. It's a heavy calculation, out of the 2 hours, half an hour went in calculating the positive and negative marks I am going to get. Two exams in one! Kraznocks!

There is a new trend in my home right now, every Saturday I am putting up a show for Harry Potter movies... for my mom and sister. It has been a month now and we are really enjoying this routine. Both of them like Harry Potter but haven't seen most of the movies, at least not at a stretch. And I can watch movies any number of times... so lets not count me.

Well... I will be logging out now. Nothing else comes to mind.. Bye. :))

Day 33: Exams and Re-exams

Exams bore me. If it's easy, I will just finish as fast as I can and storm out. If it's hard, I will sit there and laugh at myself, literally. Anybody would've guessed that I am having a good exam when they see me smiling, but it's just the opposite.

After all that, when I fail in one, it's a torture to sit in a re-test. It always starts with the feeling, that I already had flunked in this, what better can I do this time? It's not like my habit of studying has suddenly improved or somebody has just downloaded the whole course electronically in my memory.

It gets even better when I am not attending any lectures and kind of home-studying, from a crappy book with terrible mistakes, that only a 2nd Std kid is capable of.

Pretty much of a mess.

So, with the hope of passing it this time, I will get into the functional part of this blog.

Today's movie - In & Out.

Howard Brackett (Kevin Kline) is a respected and liked English professor in a small Indiana town, engaged to Emily Montgomery (Joan Cusack). His small happy world falls apart when his former student, current year's Academy award nominee Cameron Drake (Matt Dillon) announces on his award winning speech that Howard - is gay!

Students start treating him like an alien, his colleagues ridicule him, to which he tries hard to reassure that he is a completely straight person, even to his fiance. But things go out of hand when reporters storm in the city to capture anything on this huge new gimmick.

With all that pressure, and continuously failing attempts to prove himself, he finally admits that he is, in fact, a gay... shockingly, between his wedding vows! Emily runs away, so does his job.

But he still has a chance to come out with the truth one more time, in the graduation ceremony, and ask everybody if being gay is such a crime, if his years of hard work is nothing compared to his sexual orientation, if one really has to go that far to hide his true self, because people might not accept him otherwise.

A truly funny and sensible movie about gays, that got Kevin Kline a nomination for the best actor category in Golden Globe.

This was actually my second movie of Kevin Kline... and I just loved it!

Hope you do too!

Day 32: Growing Bad Habits

Keeping procrastination apart, I am growing a few other terrible habits.

First, not calling people. Its just getting worse and worse, since the day I realized this weakness. For normal people, the graph generally goes the other way.

Second, I am working from home quite frequently. It's not as bad if I was working at my own home. But sadly, I don't have an internet connection yet and hence using my friend's. So, it feels a little awkward to ask him every time, the current frequency being at least once a week. But a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Third, as I have already wrote in several other posts... zero fitness regime. Its like I have lost the will to improve.

Anyway, I haven't suggested any movies for a few days. A compensation won't be very convenient either. So I will just move ahead...

Today, I want to write about Inception.

I was already dazzled by the brilliance of Christopher Nolan's mind, after watching Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight. Even Insomnia wasn't that bad. And the hype just built up automatically inside me.

So when I reached the theatre I prayed that the movie should keep upto the hype. Well... it did.

A brilliant movie based on subconscious memories, accessible only in dreams. A story about how a team of corporate spies steal such ideas and memories from by being in-control even inside a dream. But their toughest challenge is yet to come, when they will have to plant an idea inside somebody's subconscious mind... instead of stealing. The job of their lifetime will require them to setup an even better team and plan multiple levels of dreams to poke into the innermost chord of subconscious limbos. But, the question is, are their own consciousness completely in control... do they know what's real and what is not?

If you don't understand some intricate details, don't worry. Probably nobody did. And the main charm of the movie is this unconceivable complexity.

Don't miss it.

Day 29, 30 & 31: One Month Old

Yup, the blog is one month old now. Maybe because, Google doesn't yet have the utilities of deleting blogs that nobody reads. Will take that opportunity to rejoice anyway... while it lasts.

What I did last 2 days? Nothing much. Regular household work, groceries and stuff. Sunday had a little get-together with friends for a sister's permanent-job-party. Food was not heavenly and we realized it when the service turned out to be even worse. But that wasn't the point of a get-together, so we enjoyed anyway. Well, a little delicious ice-cream terminated the night quite well.

Had the opportunity to access internet of course, just didn't find my right mind in anywhere. Read my own novel over again and felt satisfied as it still inflicted me with the emotions I wanted it to contain while writing. Like my blog, even it don't have much readers. Well, at least the blog is published!

Found out that my MBA back-paper exam was on the coming Friday. No, didn't get scared. Never do... that's why I never study much either... and never get a very good score. Don't care much; hope I knew this feeling when I started MBA, wouldn't have wasted 45000 Rs in this crap then, just to get another "feather" in my cap!

Had a small quarrel with Mom... we don't have the same sensibilites in reaching out each other... so those stuff happen. I am a much better person now though, don't let the anger out much.

Watched Inception.
Brilliant movie. Brilliant director. Christopher Nolan is an extraordinary genius.
Found some similarities with Matrix, but that didn't decrease the quality of this movie as there was no hint of borrowing topics or story elements. The multiple dimensions of subconscious reality just made my simple mind go crazy. Reality and Illusion crossing path is my favorite topic, makes me think if I am real either. Yeah, the word you are looking for is - lunatic.

Found out that Dark City was an inspiration behind this movie. So watched that.
Wow! Another good one. Had even more similarities with Matrix. Loved the end scene.

Decided not to write movie review, not today at least.

Didn't do a single piece of work. Okay, maybe one piece of work. Wasted my time on internet, like any other day. Realized that time is running out and did nothing about it, like any other day. Laughed at myself... laughed at others... laughed at pointless laughing.

Blabbered in my blog... and then ended today's post. Full Stop.

Day 27 & 28: Talking To Myself

Hello all.

I am out of words to express the solitude I feel in the blog right now. You cannot imagine the frustration, because either you don't have a blog or your blog doesn't suck, in terms of readers, like mine.

Sometimes, I don't get why I started this. Actually, I don't get the point of any blog... maybe that's what missing. Or maybe nobody wants to read another boring movie blog.

Well, what to say, my life's really 'exciting'... movie is the only thing happening right now.... so that's what I share. That's what I know.

(Oh, stop whining... for God's sake!)

Yeah... better do that. Better get on with my thing.

So, today's movie No 1 - The Tournament. It's a 2009 British Action-Thriller, starring Robert Carlyle, Ving Rhames, Kelly Hu. The story is about a tournament being played between top assassins for a huge amount of winner-takes-all money. The tournament is played all over the country, without any limit... and is a money-raiser business where several underworld groups and powerful media personnel are involved.

Joseph McAvoy (Robert Carlyle) is an alcoholic priest, who finds himself into this cat-n-mouse game accidentally and is helped by one of the top assassins, Lai Lai (Kelly Hu) to keep his head on his neck.

What follows is a hugely entertaining series of insane action sequences, of course keeping a little room for a moralistic justice in the end.

About Movie No. 2..... well, let me see....

...okay, here it is...

Dead Silence.

This is by the director of the original SAW movie, James Wan.

A slow but gripping horror movie about a town with mysterious deaths, which involves a country legend of an old ventriloquist Mary Shaw killing the village people to turn into puppets.

Our hero, Jamie, will have to go back to his hometown to untangle the real story behind these folk-lore, when his wife Lisa is murdered by a puppet, and the cops take him as the prime suspect. Whether he will return... is for you to find out. Beware... because when Mary Shaw comes, "be sure you never, ever scream".

Though, it was a slow movie... the wait was worth it and the scares didn't depend only on blood and gore. The golden moment is of course the last few minutes, where the main twist unfolds... in a typical James Wan style.

See.... I am already feeling better. I now know, why I started this. For me... So, I will keep running this, for me.

Bye bye.. :)

Day 25 & 26: Out of Shape

I am really out of shape. I realized this when I started feeling dizzy after a little walking. However, in my defense, I walked only for a continuous 55 minutes under a very bright sun. Oh, I also had a heavy bag carrying my laptop and my lunch box in one hand.

Well, still, I feel that I need a little fitness regime... but I can't focus enough to break my laziness barrier. That's the problem with me, I can only deal with one issue at a time... and there are quite a few in the queue before my Feng Shui tummy.

By the way, I didn't write yesterday because I didn't have anything sharable... I don't want people to get the idea that I am a workaholic. Because, I hate being workaholic.

Anyway... time for a little review, people.

I hope you like Simon Pegg, because today I am going to suggest - Hot Fuzz. It's a cop movie with gory murder mystery, but the heart of the story is the comedy.

Simon Pegg stars as Nicholas Angel, an overachiever London cop, who is forcefully transferred to a peaceful small town as his efficiency made other officers look bad. But being an extremely alert and sincere policeman, he starts sniffing mystery in the town, which nobody is ready to believe in. In the process, he befriends a local cop Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), who is overweight, naive and under pressure to carry the honor of his father, who is the seniormost policeman in the county. Is there really a mystery or is Nicholas just cannot stand the absolute peace? Watch the movie to join the weird pairs in a ride of their lifetime.

The movie has a lot of gore and action, but the fun part is how the makes fun of itself, in a similar way Elijiah Wood's "The Faculty" did. Also, there are a lot of funny guest appearances to add to the list.

Well... moving ahead to my next flick for the day... I am going to pick a slightly different movie - Ghost Town.

As I have already mentioned, I am fan of Ricky Gervais, I would have a heartache if his movie isn't loved enough by you guys. So let me dress up the stage a bit.

Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a grumpy cynical dentist, who wants to be just left alone. He doesn't care who's sitting next or who's just got a little baby or who needs a little help with the luggage... He just doesn't care for anybody. Things get worse, when after a little "technical problem" in a surgery... he starts seeing ghosts. The ghosts realize that he is the only one who could help them and make his life hell, unintentionally.

Amongst all that misery, he sees a ray of light when an opportunist ghost Frank (Greg Kinnear) makes a deal with him to help his widow Gwen (Tea Leoni) by making her break up with her current well-to-do boyfriend. But, it isn't going to be very easy for Dr. Pincus, as Gwen lives in the same building and he has already been rude to her a lot of times. The movie follows Dr. Pincus on his path of love and realization of the meaningless life he has been living till now.

A funny, yet strongly emotional story of people, in both sides of life. Must watch!

I must warn you though, that this movie isn't about haunting and it isn't even a little scary. The tag-line will give you an idea.. how non-scary this movie is going to be - He sees dead people, and they ANNOY him.

Well.... that's a treat of movies right there! Enjoy....

Day 24: Congrats Spain!

Hello World.

Congrats Spain for winning that dream trophy... congrats Paul for foretelling it perfectly... congrats Germany for restraining themselves from putting Paul into Sea-food menus.

I am sorry, but I couldn't stay awake after the 1st 15 minute Extra time finished since Spain & Netherland still hadn't shoot into the net yet. Well, I didn't miss much!

I know the Spain fans would be very enthusiastic about this win, but most football fanatics were disappointed by the shocking OutComes (i.e. the teams Coming Out ;)) at every level of this year's FIFA. None of the top favorites made it to the final. Except Germany, none of them touched even Semi-final! Well... maybe that's how balance works!

Moving ahead... I hope you like teen dramas, because I am going to recommend one today. It's a TV movie of 2002 - Bang Bang You're Dead.

The movie starts in a stereotypical high school with stereotypical groups of kids. Our hero Trevor, is an outcast, specially after he announced a fake bomb threat in the school. He is regularly trash-canned along with other "dorks" or "losers", (God knows who decides how to put those labels!), and everyone, including the parents and teachers are okay with it, which is a form of essential "Tough Love" to them and is needed to man up the kids. Things get more heated up when Trevor is selected for he lead role in a rebellious School Play named "Bang Bang You're Dead". People start to look up and object to the play or their kids being involved in that. Trevor is in a mess, when he unknowingly befriends an outcast group, who have their own way to teach a lesson to all those who has been bad to them.

And ...Nothing will get better, until everybody learn to surpass their own crippled mindsets and look Trevor's actions through his eyes.

It's a beautiful movie, specially for parents and teachers, who think fear is the only way to get things done by kids... and for kids who think insulting people who are different than them is the only way to treat them. It really will alter some perceptions!

Well... time to log out. Looking forward to more followers... Good night!

Day 23: Inflated

At least two dozen people have used that adjective for me in the last couple of months. But it sounded like an alarm when my once-in-the-same-condition buddy told me, that I looked pregnant!

I guess, I am really catching up too much of stuff from all the food I hog. I do think of doing exercises once in a while. I started for a week too. But a terrible neck pain supported my laziness and I was off that schedule in no time. My colleague-cum-neighbour suggested a daily morning-walk project in collaboration... however, its still in the pre-release phase.

And now to the good stuff... congratulations to me and my blog.. as I have finally achieved a devoted (so I hope) follower!! Thank you so much, Soumya!

Without delaying any further I will get on with the prime content. Today I want to recommend a Sport/Historical drama - Gracie (2007). It's based on 70's America when Women's Soccer wasn't very popular and was non-existent on college or town level matches. Gracie, our protagonist, belongs to a football lover family with 1 elder and 2 younger brothers. Her father (Dermot Mulroney) was an ex-football player and now personally coached his eldest son Johnny, the star quarterback of Columbia High School team. Johnny is the only one in the family who encourages Gracie with playing football and appreciates her skills. But after a unfortunate loss to a long-time rival team, Johnny dies in an accident.

After overcoming the grief, Gracie announces her desire to replace Johnny in the team, only to be ridiculed by her brothers and father. He doesn't approve the decision and denies to coach her as she isn't strong enough to play with the boys. This takes Gracie on a path of self-inflicted destruction on academic backgrounds and social behaviors. Realizing the shortcoming of his unthoughtful denial, her father encourages her for soccer training again and tries to convince the team coach. But Gracie stll isn't approved by the townfolks, specially by her to-be teammates. What constitutes the rest of the story is how Gracie fights her way through all the ridicules and age-old mindsets of people and proves herself in front of everyone.

I always loved sports movies. But this one is a little more as it also fights the social conventions about girls being desired only in tender activities. If you aren't in for those set of beliefs, you will love it.

Well, the smell of omlette is becoming quite irresistible ... so I will go ahead to make way for some more calories... you guys enjoy!

Day 22: Practising Self-Control

Can't tell you how hard it is. I almost failed!

I have basically no self-control when it comes to movies. Even in my current economic condition, movie theaters are irresistible to me, which is a major reason why I don't go out much now-a-days.

Today, I had to go out for some critical bank paperwork. I was a little frustrated as I had to close my savings fund before maturity. The frustration pushed me towards the nearest movie complex.

I had made up my mind about breaking my resolution and watching Knight and Day, my self-control was dead. But, the backup generator fired up somehow - my luck. When I checked the ticket availability, it still showed a few tickets. But when I stood in the queue and finally reached the booking counter, it was sold out.

If you think I left it there, you are wrong.

I walked to two more multiplexes which are not very near! And with my luck still working, none of them had a show starting in at least 2 hours. So ... great!

So.. right now, I am in a mood to watch a little nostalgic movie, which I want to recommend to everybody too. Its a Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon starrer movie - Pleasantville.

It's a weird fantasy movie, where siblings David (Tobery) and Jennifer (Reese) accidentally use a magic remote and end up inside a 70-style black-n-white sitcom - Pleasantville. Everything is perfect in Pleasantville, it never rains, it never catches fire, people come back at home right at 6pm, every ball you throw goes right into the basket.

Due to the restrictions in the sitcom's script, there has been no sexual relations either between anybody in Pleasantville. So when Jennifer goes a little over the line on a date, people start feeling different, feeling out of the script-bound incomplete world... and they start getting colored! But where there is a change, there are always the ones who get to be the obstacles.

Rest of the story follows how the people of Pleasantville accept and obstruct the most obvious consistency of life - change. In this strange soul-searching journey, everybody will go through something that will free their souls... even you.

So, lets not waste time anymore and get on with it! It's almost dinner time for me... so bye bye!

Friday, July 9, 2010

Day 20 & 21: Paul is the Man!

Wow, Paul is an overnight star! (Wish he was a starfish, then I could have made a lame pun about it!)

Well, so one guy comes and tells everybody that Paul here is no ordinary octopuss, and besides handling all those potentially tangle-able tentacles smoothly, he knows astrology and stuff!! Everybody goes crazy and starts worshiping him... but now that Germany loses, people are all threatening poor Paul of frying and turning into a sea-food cuisine!

Gosh, guys! If its anybody's fault, its the guy who discovered Paul! He made him the big Nastradamus... poor Paul doesn't even know what football is, let alone the fact that he is deciding the future of Soccer teams in a jiff! Show some logic, guys!

Anyway, I had a bit too much work yesterday so couldn't come into the blog. So lets compensate for that. Lets get on with the movie section.

Today's 1st movie - The Invention of Lying.
I always liked Ricky Gervais, he seemed very natural with his comedy and always added some thought to it. His last movie Ghost Town was my favorite, so when this one released, I didn't wait even for a day... and it was completely satisfying!

The movie is about a world, which is as modern as we are at present, but with one big difference. They don't lie. Its not like they practice self-control... they are completely oblivious of the fact that lieing is always an option while speaking. Compelled to speak the truth, they don't flirt or flatter or indulge into any other positive humane forms of lying, turning them into a bitter race.
Our hero Mark Bellison (Ricky Gervais), is always at the receiving end of these bitter truths, until one day he miraculously says something that's not true. Not knowing what lying is, people believe his lies without hesitation and he starts using it to his benefits, sometimes helping others too, since he is a nice guy. The rest of the story follows that how his lies complicate just not his own life but the world culture and how he creates some common myths that we in our world follow.

If you can take the movie in a light spirit and don't consider it as blasphemy, its a wonderful movie with heavy emotions. Of course, our funny man had based the movie on his comedy. Good watch for a weekend.

Today's 2nd movie - Identity.

This one is slightly older and belongs to a completely different genre. The movie starts as a typical murder mystery plot, where 11 strangers are forced to take shelter in a deserted motel due to a heavy storm. And as obvious as it is, people start dying one by one in the most surprising manners. The killer, Malcolm Rivers (name was revealed at the beginning so I am not really killing the suspense), is being awaited in a different place where his punishment would be decided after going through the whole incident details. But what appears to be a regular slasher psycho wrecking havoc after letting loose from some asylum, is not what can anybody imagine... not until the very last 10 minutes of the movie.

Without giving away more about this John Cusack movie, I can assure you that this will be a treat if you are in for some smashing twists. However, please don't go for if you just want to watch a slasher movie.

Well... have used up all of my internet time today...
so signing off!

Hope you enjoy the movies!

Day 19: Pushing Forward

Yes, I am pushing myself forward everyday.

Well, in a way, isn't everyone else doing the same? Pushing to work the relation one more year, pushing to work one more month in the same repelling workplace, pushing to run the month one more day with empty pockets... pushing to hold tight the will to live.

So, in that sense, we have a lot in common. I am sharing my bits, and so should you.

Anyway, (why do I start with these heavy talks every day?) lets make things lighter and go straight to our fun section.

Today I will (again) discuss about a movie that's not very popular, neither is the hero. The movie I'm talking about is - Infestation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infestation_%282009_film%29).

It's a routine alien infestation story where, Cooper (Chris Marquette), our semi-nerdy semi-loser protagonist is about to be fired when hell breaks lose and everybody is attacked with an ultra-sonic sound, making them unconscious. Cooper wakes up hours later stuck in a web, and tries to wake up a few people in the same fate, when he is attacked by a giant bug! What follows is a hilariously dangerous misadventure of a group led by Cooper and the potential solution to his dating issues, Sara, the boss's daughter.

There is nothing new in terms of CGI or depiction of alien bugs, but that's the point. The aliens are the secondary topic in this movie, while Cooper's relationship problems, career issues and Dad's indifference take the front seat.

It's a lovely movie, if you aren't expecting Cameron's Aliens or Spielberg's War of The Worlds... a 90 minutes fun ride, that will not bore you even for a second!

Sometimes, we should take it light.

Time to go, people, see you tomorrow!

Day 18: Anybody Reading This...??

Hello? Anybody There?

I guess not.

2 Comments in 19 days. And those 2 were from my friends who were just trying to motivate me. This tells me how "good" I write.

Anyway, I am a slow person, but not a quitter. I suspend things when I gets messy, but never really drop it. I wrote a novel recently, (you can guess how "great" it might have been), I tried to publish it... but nobody was interested. So that made a lot of my calculations wrong and I am kind of behind my economic recovery schedule. That's why I paused writing my next novel...

But I am not going to scrap my novel, neither I am going to dump my dream of being a writer.

I have always been a bit slow on realizations. It took me 26 years to understand what I actually wanted to do in my life. If that happened a decade ago, I might not have wasted my Dad's money on my Computer degree.

Those days, everybody wanted to be an Engineer, some kind of virtual status. They still do, I guess. Who cares what dreams are, they are going to come only when you sleep...right? Wrong! And what's more wrong is the word "dream" - it just describes it as a subconscious phenomenon and underrates the actual meaning of it! That's what happens when we add science to every freaking thing!

I want to be a writer. I always did. I used to write these detective stories, comic strips, of course majorly influenced by movies... and then my friends would read it and ask for more... it was so lovely without a brand value being necessary for publicity! Well, on publishers' defense, I didn't charge my friends for reading either!

Anyway, too much of emotional whirlwinds for a blog that no one reads. Time for today's pick.

And today's recommendation is - Killshot.

Its a thriller about a veteran hitman Blackbird (Mickey Rourke), who gets involved in a side-job with a rookie goon Richie (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), while carrying out his main mission to kill a mob-boss. Meanwhile Wayne and Carmen Colson (Thomas Jane and Diane Lane), gets mingled in Richie's short-time job and must defend themselves, as they end up being something that Blackbird cannot permit to live - witnesses. What follows is a cat-and-mouse game between the two pairs while both of the pairs need a little sorting up to do between themselves.

A perfect action-thriller with a sensible story. Must for Mickey Rourke fans.

Well, that's all I had up my sleeves for today. Will be back with another pseudo soul-searching post tomorrow... till then, good bye!

Day 16 & 17: Trying To Make It Up For You

As I said on the very first day, I am an irregular person... so there is no point in apologizing.

Sometimes I just get out of internet coverage... no I don't travel much! It's just that the person I solely depend on for internet, was missing on Sunday... so, there.

Well, today I toyed with my resume for an hour and its now almost in last stage. I will just have to give a few final touches tomorrow and upload it to sites. Hope, I am doing the right thing... Even if I am not, I don't see another option to choose. I don't see how I am going to go with just distracting myself with movies.

However, distraction is necessary sometimes. For me, all the time.

I was giving 2012 a re-watch today and it occurred to me that if it happened really, it would happen just like it did in the movie. No, I am not talking about the natural destruction. I am talking about the administrative circus that happened before the final wave wiped out every inch of land.

Tickets were sold to get a reservation in the arcs that were last hopes of mankind. And they were sold at such a high price, that only billionaires could buy it. The logic that the White House legislative gave was that the price to build such machines could only come with such a high ticket price.

Very logical, mathematically. But there is just one thing I couldn't understand, why should it take money to build an arc that will save all mankind? Why should anybody charge for anything, any resource that is being used to build our last hope? What possibly could anybody do with that money once the world is just erased from the maps? What would he/she buy or rather who would he/she buy it from?

Maybe there is an answer to these questions, maybe I am just to 'naive' to understand it... well, then I should better move on to do what my un-advanced mind can do... I should start today's recommendations.

Well, as a rule... I will again pick 2 movies today.

Movie no. 1 - Election.
A bitter but funny, tale of a college election and how it affects the people involved... a perfect example of a black comedy. A story where its not necessary for the good guy to win... and its not necessary that the good guy ends up doing the right thing. Reese Witherspoon stars as Tracy Flick, an over-competitive, mean, manipulative, over-achiever who is running for the college elections, while Mathew Broderick stars as Jim McAllister, her professor, who goes way over his head to stop her from winning. Chris Klein supports the cast as a chilled-out ex-sports-star of the college, who tries a hand at the election after his leg breaks in a dangerous ski accident.

The story is completely unpredictable, and will satisfy you with its stock of cruel laughters, if not in terms of the poetic justice everybody expects.

Movie No. 2 - Basic.
A mind-blowing puzzle of truth and lies, where the jigsaw pieces can change shapes any second and trust is the last thing one can expect from anybody else. Sergeant Nathan West (Samuel Jackson) and his troop of Army Rangers goes for a hideout while hurricane threatens the Panamanian jungle. After 17 hours, most of the troop are missing and presumed dead or are found injured in what appears to be a death-fight between them. Colonel Tom Hardy (John Travolta) and Captain Julia Osborne (Connie Nielsen) are summoned to investigate the incident and put the missing pieces together. The rest of the story is how the puzzle gets solved or more tangled, based on each character's depiction of the foggy truth.

An excellent movie in terms of plot-twists and a feast for people who like movies that makes them think.

Well, it has gone too long today! So, ending it abruptly. Alvida!

Day 15: Nothing To Do

Well, that’s the problem with weekends if you are broke. You can't go out, you can't buy stuff... it’s very demoralizing, more when you are empty even when the month just started.

So... all you do is just lie down and skim through your laptop with your right hand, while your left hand swiftly handles the remote. I know that sounds quite cosy, but it’s not. It’s plain dull to sit at home, when all those good movies – Karate Kid, Toy Story 3 – are running in the theaters.

Speaking of Toy Story 3, 3d movies seem to be quite a high trend these days, both in animations and live-actions. Well, it’s a rather new tide in India. I saw Shrek Forever After in 3d, and it looked fantastic! All the screen-breaking effect was marvellous. But on the other hand, I watched Avatar in the same screen and it didn’t look as good. The 3d portions were not always recognizable. Since I am new to this, I will guess, 3d doesn’t go very far with live-actions.

Anyway, ignoring my ignorance, let’s move to the fun part. I wanted to bring up a little different movie today, which may not be often watched or aired on TV. So I ran through my database and found this – The Man Who Wouldn’t Die.

It’s a thriller with a touch of comedy. The story is about a detective novel writer (Roger Moore) who has to deal with a lunatic criminal (Malcolm McDowell), who believes himself to be the undying villain of the formers’ novels and wants to continue the cat-N-mouse game for real with the whole city being on the stakes. The writer’s only help is a waitress (Nancy Allen), who gets accidental premonitions to stir things up a little. It’s a deadly but enjoyable battle of wits, especially for Roger Moore fans (I know there will be too many).

Well, tell me if you find it in DVD libraries though, because I can’t seem to find it any f***ing where.

And take a look at the only decent poster available of this movie! Look at these two clowns.... I don't even remember them being in that movie...! Look how pathetically they have moved Moore and McDowell to the back, while there is no Nancy Allen visible anywhere. Talk about star value...!!

Well, let’s not bore you guys more than you already are... and end today’s chapter. Still hoping somebody would reply though... it’s a bit lonely out here.

See you tomorrow.

Day 13 & 14: E-Merged

So my irregularity started... well, can't blame me completely!

Apart from the blog's popularity...I had some heavy duty work yesterday and couldn't sqeeze out any time. So lets merge the days.... as a compensation I will recommend two movies....!!!

As if it matters....

Anyway, Today's Movie no 1 - Ink.

An absolutely surreal movie, in every mm of the film, with a lot of soul in it. From the first moment, the story will keep driving you crazy with its limitless imagination and a dreamy cinematography. Don't let your confusion throw you off... because, you are in for a treat... both visually and storywise.

Its a story about a world, not conceivable by the normal people.. because its on the other side of life. People die and carry their sins and good deeds along with them. That's why the good spirits get to be Storytellers, who give good dreams to people... and the bad spirits get to be Incubi, who torment people with nightmares and keep people in an illusion of self-righteousness. But there are also the Drifters, who don't know where they belong.

The story is about such a drifter Ink, who steals a little girl while she is sleeping, leaving her body in a coma, to be accepted as an Incubi. The storytellers, unable to protect the little girl, tries to bring her father near her, who is completely consumed by his work success and has completely alienated himself from his daughter.

Rest of the story is about how these different people choose their different paths affecting each others' lives like a strange mystical clockwork.

The next movie I am going to pick..is of completely different mood - Zathura.

Well, I guess its a rather popular movie, but I still want to recommend it, since it's not a watch-only-once type.

In the lines of its inspiration Jumanji, two quarreling little brothers, find a strange board game named Zathura - A Space Adventure, which takes them into space, literally. The brothers already suffer from attention issues from their separated parents, which contributes to their seemingly common hatred to each other.

As the game starts getting tougher and tensed, as the chances of getting back to home (or with the home) gets slimmer... they start quarreling even more. The rest of the story is how the strange and perilious journey teaches them to come out with the love they don't often show but share deeply, and learn to be brothers.

Its a lovely movie, in terms of childish innocence and imagination, and teaches everyone, a kid or an elder, how to sort out the petty differences to make our lives .. just a little less lonely....

Love you all.....

Have a great weekend..!
